Eric Berman, a public relations veteran with a background in politics, has been appointed executive vice president of public affairs by Universal Music Group. In his new position, Berman will handle global government relations and public policy for the label group.
Berman arrives at UMG from public relations firm Kekst and Company, where he has worked since 1997. Prior to that he held positions in the White House underPresident Bill Clinton, at the Democratic National Committee and on Capitol Hill. The Harvard grad also worked on several high profile campaigns, most notably Clinton-Gore’s successful bid in 1992.
He will report jointly to Jeffrey Harleston, general counsel and executive vp of business & legal affairs, and Will Tanous, executive vp of communications.

Tanous added that Berman “has demonstrated a perceptive understanding of the challenges facing our industry, a keen vision for how to seize the opportunities before us and an astute appreciation for how to advance public policy in the mutual best interest of all of our industry’s stakeholders.”
